Dallas Carpets director Billy McKechnie and his team step up for a cause close to their hearts

Recently we at Dallas Carpets became the proud sponsors of The Greenock Telegraph’s campaign to support the Inverclyde Foodbank, who fed almost 1,000 local children last year.

From our Roxburgh Street showroom the company began taking in donations to ship them on.

Thanks to Dallas Carpets there was also a bag slotted into every copy of the Greenock Telegraph on August 4, so readers could fill them up and hand them in.

Together with the local paper we delivered 300 bags to the foodbank, packed with items ready to be sent out to people in the greatest need – donating a mountain of food weighing in at 1,000 kilos.

Owner Billy said: “We have been serving the community for nearly 30 years and we have generations of the same family coming in here.

“We know what a tough year it has been and we want to give back.

“I would like to say a big thanks to everyone who has supported the appeal.

“We are very proud to be a part of this and I want to say a special thank you to our customers for their generosity.

“We never doubted the response and we have been very busy at Dallas Carpets with donations.”

As Dallas Carpets bounces back after lockdown Billy is keen to repay the community for the loyalty shown by customers.

He said: “We have been affected and it was a difficult year, having to close.

“But we have been very busy since we reopened.

“Our customers have shown huge loyalty to us and we want to show it to them as well by supporting this.”

Inverclyde Foodbank is run by the Hope Community Church’s i58 project in partnership with the Trussell Trust, on a referral basis.

Since setting up in 2012 they have helped feed thousands of families.

Anyone wishing to donate can do so at the foodbank at 64 West Blackhall Street, open Mondays, Wednesdays and Friday from 1-4pm.

The foodbank also gratefully accepts household items like washing up liquid, baby items and feminine products.
